Gordon Young is a visual artist
who focuses on creating art for the public domain. His work ranges from sculptures to typographic pavements for places as disrelated as government headquarters and village squares. The common denominator for all projects is the basis of relevance to the surroundings.

The project was to kit out Jersey's new maritime museum with interactive artifacts. As lead artist the role was to create and comission a range of items that included a giant globe automata, a sea shanty duke box, etc.

Outside the museum the maritime theme is continued with paving and granite seating inscribed with the semaphore code; bollards describing fisherman's knots and longitude and latitude of the harbour attached to the quayside.
